CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Colonel Darrell Stone

Colonel Stone ignored the urge to rush from his station and commandeer a shuttle.

How could she be taken like that? He hadn't thought it possible!

They’d watched helplessly as Charli and her team was unceremoniously thrown into the back of the hover car and, still unconscious, carried to one of the adjoining islands.

The damnable thing about it was that the new island was heavily foliaged and heavily trafficked. There was absolutely no way they could monitor from orbit which new cars or boats they might be loaded on or where they might be taken.

If the abductors were smart then all three team members were now on three different boats headed to three different destinations.

There was no doubt in the Colonel's mind that this wasn’t a planned operation… This hadn't just happened.

Colonel Stone had stayed on the ship long enough to coordinate all the other teams on Gingersnap to systematically converge on the first island Charli and her team were taken to.

They didn't have the numbers to inspect every boat leaving that island, but on their way in they stopped as many as they could. When they explained their dilemma everyone cooperated… with no results.

Before he'd left the ship he had sent out a priority alert to all other ships in orbit around Gingersnap. He couldn't really order anyone not to leave orbit, especially ships from other dynasties, but he hoped they would respect the situation enough to comply – at least for a while.

Now that he was on the island he was forced to face the fact that he was no longer coordinating a rescue mission; his job was now that of forensics.

The Colonel cared about all his people, and losing David had been bad enough, but losing Charli caused something to snap inside him.

Once they figured out where and how she'd been taken they could resume the chase. Of course, that was assuming she was still…
